On day two, we met up with family for lunch at Huashan Creative Park where they have a Taiwanese Buffet restaurant. It's a old winery that they've rehabbed into a mixed use cultural space with restaurants, bars, shops, coffee shops, movie cinemas, etc. Then we walked over to Ximending where we checked out plasticmom's old elementary school. She commented that she remembers the school being much bigger, but maybe she was just a lot smaller. She pointed out where friends and teachers used to live and we even found some old timey shops that were still around. We hit the night market at Huaxi Street and enjoyed food on sticks, food in bags, you get the point. I love that in Taipei there are 3 options: eat in, take home or "walk and eat."
Old timey penny cookie shop. plasticmom got an almond cookie and a cookie that I'm pretty sure has pork in it. Yum!
Impressively tall soft serve ice creams. I like the saying, "looking is free."
Street vendor grilling up mochi on a stick until it's puffed up, golden brown and crisp
Grilled mochi with sweet black sesame sauce
Gua Bao from Hua Xi Street night market. WAY better than any of those fancy pants pork belly buns they sell in NYC or Boston
Adam is very pleased with his Gua Bao [Pork Belly Bun]
Some jelly sweet drink. Ordered it "walk and eat" so they stick a straw in bag. You can walk around and enjoy your refreshing beverage.
Jelly Sweet Drink
Rice Sausage! Not my favorite, but my mom liked it
Finally we have "Big Head Little Bowl"
That's what I like to call this photo. Adam enjoying a bowl of fish cake soup. We got three kinds to share: fish cake, squid and my favorite being crispy fish soup
