We stayed in South Beach for three days during our trip and I didn't realize until we arrived that South Beach has a huge district of preserved art deco buildings. The Miami Design Preservation League had the entire area designated as historic in the 70s to preserve the architecture. On Christmas, we went on a really interesting art deco walking tour and learned more about the area and the architecture. It's really fun and I'd highly recommend it. If anything, it'll provide a baseline understanding of what art deco architecture looks like so you can avoid running commentary of, "why isn't that art deco" or "I think that looks a little art deco to me." Of course, not from recent experience and totally hypothetical.
